Can you help me understand European requirements as to wood packaging materials?

ISPM15 is an International Phytosanitary Measure developed by the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) that works to prevent the international spread of pests and plant diseases.  https://www.ippc.int/

ISPM15 dictates the treatment of wood packaging materials (pallets, crates, etc) of a thickness greater than 6mm, used to ship products between countries.

All wooden packaging products, wooden pallets or wooden shipping crates must conform to this internationally recognised standard:

-    the wood must be heat treated or fumigated to remove any potential nasties within the wood itself
-    the packaging must subsequently be marked or branded with a seal of compliance, colloquially referred to as “the wheat stamp”.

Sending your goods overseas on or in wooden packaging that does not conform to ISPM15 can or will result in your shipment being quarantined and possibly destroyed!

Cellpak offer a range of packing and shipping products that meet all international regulations including certification to conform to international standards for photosanitary measures (ISPM) – click here for more information.

Find out more about CellPal, the moulded paper pulp pallet: CellPal is not subject to costly ISPM15 heat treatment regulations which can cause imported products to be delayed or rejected...

Braille can be accommodated into any product packaging that is either produced in a moulding process or by a die cutting process.  Please be aware there are special tooling requirements for adding Braille to your packaging.

In the UK, over 2 million people are visually impaired but only between 10-20,000 people can read Braille.  Working with our packaging designers, we can help you to develop clearly branded and labelled packaging that supports good legibility and ease of recognition for both sighted and visually impaired customers.

Careful use of clean, less cursive fonts, good colour contrast and considered layouts can go a long way to improving the success of your packaging as a communication tool for your product for the visually impaired.
